Racial Justice at Work: Disrupting the Racist Narrative in Marketing and Advertising

Season #4

The messages created by cultural gatekeepers such as marketers have the power to perpetuate inequities — and to also disrupt them. Marketers can push back on the dominant narrative by building in time to consider the impact of their decisions and to move intentionally to ensure those most harmed by racism are centered and not further traumatized by marketing and advertising campaigns.

In this companion episode for the book Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2023), lead author Mary-Frances Winters and special projects editor Gabrielle Gayagoy Gonzalez sit down with Dr. Megan Larson, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for The Winters Group, Inc., to discuss her chapter “Disrupting the Racist Narrative in Marketing and Advertising” with special guests from the Ferrara Candy Company, Chief Marketing Officer Gregory Guidotti and Vice President Natasha Miller Williams, Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Listen in as they discuss ways to reimagine marketing by asking hard questions and inviting different perspectives.
